This whole encounter is bugged and listened in on by DIA director Janet Lassiter (Linda Emond) and GEMINI director Clay Varris (Clive Owen). Writers: David Benioff, Billy Ray, Darren Lemke. Such technology was but a glimmer in the eye of producers when Gemini Man was first pitched over twenty years ago. The bizarre combination of flesh-and-blood star Will Smith, his much younger digital clone, director Ang Lee and Jerry Bruckheimer makes for a high. Jaden Smith has been in various films with his father Will Smith, like The Pursuit of Happyness and After Earth. Gemini Man is an absolute tour de force of a movie that left me completely starstruck. A gang of homicidal mutants blame science for their condition and attempt to kill him. Dr Robert Neville has developed an experimental vaccine which makes him the only immune survivor of a biological catastrophe. Smith will thus undergo the CGI de-aging process, in order to portray his younger self in the film. Life Of Pi is an adventure, Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk is a life drama and Gemini Man is action. They are interesting movies, all tackling different genres. Gemini Man is an innovative action-thriller starring Will Smith as Henry Brogan, an elite assassin, who is suddenly targeted and pursued by a mysterious young operative that seemingly can predict his every move. Ang Lee, the director of Gemini Man has released a few films in the native 3D format. Unlike some other Hawaiian resorts, the Montage on Kapalua Bay has incorporated Hawaiian seafaring culture and traditions into its public spaces. ![]() Also, the V-Piano has a curiously shallow key throw. Lots of other people love them, it's just not my flavor. I've never warmed up to the character of the Roland digital pianos. I liked the CP1 a lot, but I didn't care for the low end and felt like I could hear obvious looping. The Keyboard Mag review at the time suggested that even though it was a w/s, the Kronos could hold it's own against SPs. I decided I wanted a piano first and would go back to the laptop if needed.įor me, the Kronos felt and sounded better than the dedicated stage pianos. I wasn't happy with the touch or the pianos on the M3, though I do a one-man band thing and liked the workstation approach. ![]() I had been touring with a Yamaha S80 and laptop from 1999-2008 and had switched to the M3-63 in '08. It's not a workstation, but I really wanted a stage keyboard to go along with my K2.īack in 2011, I spent quite some time demo-ing the Yamaha CP1, Roland V-Piano and the Kronos. ![]() And of course, you can run samples in the synth engine. ![]() I really, really, like the Nord control surfaces for live playing, they add a new Synth to the board to go along with very good Organs and pianos. I thought about adding a Montage to my K2, but instead decided to get a NORD STage 3 instead. Read my short review and also others' here (and as mention there are quite a few other topics comparing Montage vs Kronos on this forum) : I also own a baby grand piano, so it's easy for me to compare to a real acoustic instrument. The Kronos-2 pianos are certainly not perfect either, but the Korg RH3 keys to piano sounds combination felt closer to the real thing to me. Didn't like the feel of the keys in terms of connection with the sound response. The Montage acoustic piano sounds don't use resonance, which I thought was very strange for such a recent new master synth. Posted: Sat 11:44 pm Post subject: Re: Korg Kronos OR Yamaha Montage 8? You could google for all that wonderful info We have thrashed around Kronos vs Montage quite thoroughly here. The Montage seems to be an expensive choice. Location: Discovery Bay (San Francisco Bay Area) I would not commit that sort of money without trying them.įollow kronos.factory development and submit ideas over at the kronos.factory Trello Board Personally if I were you and committing that sort of money, a trip to the nearest store is still worth it - make sure they have both there and make a day of it, as only you can decide which is best for you. I'll be trying Montage in a few months time - for me, it's a mere 120 miles to a decent store. And I am speaking as an old school Yamaha fan, for whom the Kronos is his first Korg. Chuck in the remaining engines, Karma, and Wavesequencing in HD-1 and I am sure the Kronos will give you a lot more fun for a lot longer. In terms of pianos, well, preference is very subjective, but Kronos gives you unlooped samples for each key streamed from SSD. That's not to say those sounds will not sound good (some of the best synth sounds on an SY77 are via AFM through a very analog sounding digital filter!), but for me, I would take a modelling engine (which will model analog nuances) over something based on static samples any day. Montage will have to do analogue via its AWM or FM-X engines. Why? Because of the modelling synth engines. If synth sounds are important I would on tech specs alone (still have not tested a Montage) favour the Korg. And I love 80's music! lolĪgain, I know the synthesizers I am looking at are overkill - but I don't want some piece of plastic and I want something that looks like a real piece of equipment and not a toy as so many keyboard today do. I don't really want a stage piano - because I really do like a lot of the synthesizer sounds/instruments. I don't plan on recording or sequencing - just playing. I know it is "overkill" but I am looking for an 88 key "synthesizer" that has the best grand piano sounds first and foremost - and then the other instrument sounds come secondary. Unfortunately there isn't a music store within 250 miles that carries either one. Have you gone to a music store and tried both? Obviously, Kronos has a lot of cheerleaders on a Kronos forum. Without more info from you, this is really subjective to how each feels and sounds to you. I will be using it mainly for the grand piano sounds 70% of the time - the other sounds 30% of the time. In 1983 I thought it would be nice to do some holiday caroling and initially organized friends in my building to wander around singing. ![]() I then served in that function for 13 years consecutively. I suggested to the board that we hold a Yard Sale in the spring to bookend the one 104th Street does each fall - I guess that was around 2004? I offered to manage the vendors in order to kick it off. I've always believed that if I'm not part of the solution then I'm part of the problem. After stepping down I've continued being active I deeply believe in community involvement. ![]() I was a board member for seven years and spearheaded the efforts to stagger traffic lights on West End and have stop signs installed on the Riverside Drive service road. I've been active with the Block Association in many ways since then. It's terrific to feel so at home in supposedly uncaring, unfriendly Manhattan. I used my students - along with the many other things I do, I've taught singing since 1978, trained by my own teacher to do so - and I was immediately embraced by this wonderful community. So how long did it take you to get involved in the Block Association?Īnthony: Not long! Lil Oliver, an 865 neighbor and Sy Oliver's wife and head of the American Guild of Musical Artists (AGMA), invited me to produce a show for one of the Block Parties - titled "On the Streets Where You Live" given in the early 1980's. I'm still here.Ĭaitlin: Ha! With echoes of Elaine Stritch. I really wanted to try "the City thing" for a while and Bloomingdale reminded me so much of my native Park Slope I felt right at home. And, now, as a little hors d'oeuvre, read on for my sit-down with Anthony.Ĭaitlin: How long have you lived in the neighborhood?Īnthony: I moved into 865 West End immediately after graduating from Pratt Institute School of Architecture in 1979. So keep your eye out tomorrow for the blog post with the video. You'll enjoy the intimacy of Anthony's talk as he infiltrated almost every Candela on West End to bring alive the architectural features that Candela was known for and that make living in one of his buildings a classic New York experience. With fine examples of his work at 800, 820, 865, 875, 878, and 915 West End and more south of here, you can't hold a candle to us! The Upper East Side boasts a fair number of them, but Candela Corners belong to us, Bloomingdalers. Now it's time to pay some mind to the great Sicilian American architect Rosario Candela who left a mark on the way New Yorkers live by way of the incredible number of residential buildings he designed in the 1920s and 1930s. I've written before about the early buildings like the Townsend House and my personal favorite, the St. 102nd Street and West End Avenue where most every pre-war era collides in an explosion of styles and housing variations. In the meantime, I caught up with Anthony, a former Block Association board member and longtime neighbor.
